New Year … New You … and Me … and My Family …

That was the most clever title I could come up with at the moment. We have some big changes coming this new year – Little Buttercup is going to public school. Yes … you read that right. After much fervent prayer our oldest will begin attending the school up the street. How did we come to this, you ask. Well …

If you know me or have read my blog for any length of time then you know the troubles that I have with my oldest. We butt heads … constantly. And homeschooling her, quite literally, is a daily battle and a struggle for who has the power. It’s me, right?!?! LOL …

There have been many days that I excuse myself and shut the door to my room, call Brandon and tell him that I can’t do this any more. But it’s always a “in the heat of the moment” comment, always a reaction to a difficult situation, so I’ve never really given it a 2nd thought. Until now …

We (she and I) had a moment that left me broken and crying out to the Lord for help, for change.  I began fervently praying about the situation and not very long after I knew what needed to change … Me.  In the meantime, however, we need some separation, a break from one another, some time to heal, some absence to make the heart grow fonder.

Is this my #1 desire?  No, it isn’t, but sometimes the Lord has us set aside our desires for the greater good.  My family needs peace.  They need love from me.  They need to see Jesus in me.  I want to delight in my daughter.  These things aren’t happening and haven’t been happening.  I need to take some time and work on me.   My family deserves that.

So, there you have it.  A new year and some big changes.  I wonder what the future holds…

Blessings!

Wow, that is a big change, Heather!

I have friends that have done it and I can honestly say that it was the best decision. One of my friends had enough one day and her husband said That’s it! Y’all are going to public school! And wouldn’t you know it, they were both enrolled the following Monday. It was only for a year but it was a much needed break for both and made the oldest really appreciate home. He still refers to it as the “public school experiment.”

One of my other friends enrolled hers in private school where they have been thriving for almost 2 years now (and counting).

Another enrolled hers in private school because she felt like her kids weren’t learning anything. She came to realize that they were learning at home and resolved to be more diligent and being forced to go to school every morning made it a lot easier for her kids (and her) to get up every day and “do school” first.

So hang in there, grow closer to the Lord and take it one day at a time. Y’all know what is best for your family and you shouldn’t let anyone else steer you away from what you believe is God’s Will for your family.

I’ll be praying for you and for little Buttercup! May this be a time of refreshment, encouragement and growth for all of you.

    Love,
    Marsha

I know this has not been an easy decision for you, and I pray that you receive an abundance of peace, love and joy in your home, and that you will delight in your precious Little Buttercup.

    Love you,
    Paige

    Hey Sis-in-Law,

Been there done that. There are MANY days when I want to throw in the towel. I feel your pain. Right now we are having a good week…We are on Christmas break however. LOL

Here is an option that I am considering next year for Rachel and possibly Josh….Georgia Virtual Academy. Right now enrollment is closed. You could enroll Lydia directly though K12 now, but you would have to pay for it. When the new year begins though, it would be free under the Georgia Public School System.

Georgia Virtual Academy uses K12. You can view their website http://www.k12.com/ . It is computer based, which Lydia would love. They also offer Art and Music in addition to their core curriculum.

Every child is different and needs some outside instruction. Georgia Virtual Academy could be the best of both worlds.

Let me know if you want talk…I’m here to listen.

    Love ya,
    Pam
